Bridging Green Opportunities and Skills for a Sustainable Essex

Welcome to the Essex Green Skills Hub, our one-stop-shop for residents, learners, employers and partner organisations with an interest in sustainability skills, careers, jobs and resources.

A greener future for Essex

Essex is working in partnership to invest in and develop green skills for the county’s economy and businesses. By bridging opportunities with skills-building, we can empower Essex residents and businesses to contribute to a greener future.

Green Skills

Green skills are knowledge, experience, values, attitudes and abilities that support carbon reduction and resource efficiency to increase climate resilience and enhance natural assets. Green skills do not form their own sector, they are relevant to all sectors in the economy.

Green Courses

Green courses are educational and training programmes that equip individuals or learners with the knowledge, skills and aptitudes for a sustainable future.

Green Jobs

Green jobs are those that aim to contribute to preserving or restoring our environment. With our ambition for a net zero future, most jobs will transition to become green jobs.

Play your part

Whether you are an individual, a training provider or a business in Essex, reducing our carbon footprint is a challenge.

Essex County Council has produced five Climate Action Advice Packs; for residents, for businesses, schools and Early Years or Childcare settings. There is also an easy read version of the packs.

Getting to net zero is a collective effort by our residents, employers and partner organisations across Essex. Only by making sure that residents and businesses have the right green skills will we be able to achieve this ambition.

Seize your opportunity

The jobs market is competitive; whether you are a job seeker wishing to start or progress your career or an employer wishing to recruit the best talent or upskill your workforce.

The route to positioning yourself in this competitive market is by making sure that your skills, including green skills, are up to date and relevant.

Defining a green career

The concept of a green career is evolving. As more sectors transition to low-carbon models of delivery,  almost any job has the potential to become green. Green careers are found in jobs that have a direct and positive impact on reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability.
